Community activists have attacked the State Government's lack of public consultation on the Victoria Road plans, following revelations that three contracts estimated at $136 million dollars have already been signed for the proposed Iron Cove Bridge duplication. According to RTA records, the contracts between the authority and three companies - Baulderstone Hornibrook, Hyder Consulting and Manidis Roberts - allow for the development, design, consultation and construction of the Victoria Road and new Iron Cove Bridge project. These 140-week contracts were signed on October 5 last year, two months before community consultation began on the project. Read more

I was surprised and disappointed by the article on ferry services in the April Village Voice. Certainly, there are full ferries in peak hour, as there are full trains and buses. In morning peak times there are six ferry services in one hour, and yes they can be crowded. So are the 504, and 438 buses from Chiswick and Abbotsford. Read more

A campaign calling on the Federal Government to implement a six month paid maternity leave scheme was launched in Five Dock this month. Just as Nancy and Frank Sinatra once paired up to create a popular hit, Drummoyne locals Eliza Cooper and her father John have banded together in the name of art. The father and daughter team recently exhibited at Angela Jayne cafe in Drummoyne, which features new works by local artists each month.
